要旨

この研究は日本における大学院教育が、労働者の賃金に与える影響を推定することを目的としている。日本の大学院については、１）学生の大部分が国公立理系であり、２）その中でも学力の高い層が大学院に行く傾向があり、３）大学院進学者数が経済状況に依存して変動することがわかっている。そのため、能力の違いや大学院進学時の経済状況を無視した推定では、上方バイアスがかかってしまう。この問題に対処するため、労働者が卒業した大学について詳しい情報が含まれる『消費生活に関するパネル調査』データを使い、専攻や設置（国公立／私立）の影響を考慮した上で、大学院修士課程の教育が賃金に与える影響を推定した。推定結果から、大卒と大学院卒の賃金格差の中で専攻や設置で説明される部分はごく一部でしかないということがわかった。さらに、専攻や設置以外の要因を考慮するために、操作変数による推定を行ったが、推定結果は統計的に有意ではなかった。より多くのサンプルが含まれる『ワーキングパーソン調査』のデータでも同様の分析を行ったが、操作変数による推定結果はやはり有意ではなかった。そのため、先行研究等で報告されている大学院賃金プレミアムが、大学院教育以外の要因を反映しているという可能性を排除することはできなかった。一方で、大学院教育が仕事満足度を高める効果は観察されており、労働者が賃金以外の面で大学院教育の恩恵を享受していることが示唆される。
